Description
The life and death of Virgil Darnell Hawkins presented in newspaper articles, speeches made by his peers, the program of a monument dedicated to him, information on his graduation from law school, and Harley Scott Herman's petition to posthumously reinstate Hawkins to The Florida Bar. Hawkins, an attorney, had a long and complicated history with the Florida legal system. His case against the Florida Board of Control for admission to the University of Florida Law School reached the United States Supreme Court. He fought to end segregation in schools and racially discriminatory law practices.
