A collection of journalism-related documents, publications and notes kept by Thelma Thurston Gorham. Miss Collegiate Black American materials including summaries, lists of participating colleges, press release drafts, and other documents. There are also writing materials, including editorial rewrites, a copy of a language usage test, biological sketches, an award and news release to Janita Ford Hollis, book reviews of Bill Fore's "Television and Religion", as well as other newspaper clippings and copies. There are also publishing company notes and directories, as well as features and drafts of Florida A&M University journalism news, article edits, a references list, and correspondence on college textbooks and materials.

A collection of Thelma Thurston Gorham's copies of publications and other materials. It contains releases with Florida A&M University current events and journalism news. It also contains white house press releases, including President Jimmy Carter's speech at the 8th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative dinner, and other releases covering government appointments of African Americans. Other documents include an invitation to the grand opening of the campaign headquarters of the Leon County Democratic Party, an image and biographical sketch of Howard Graves, "The Anatomy of Black Rhetoric" news feature by Ouida J. Singleton, a summary of proceedings of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom's Southern Regional Conference, and a transcript of a statewide TV-Radio to Floridians on race relations.

A collection of Thelma Thurston Gorham's notes and publications covering African American news, journalism, and other topics. This includes pieces on the Miss Afro-American pageant and Miss Collegiate Black American pageant, with a picture of Nue Cheer Franklin (vice president of the latter in 1985). Others cover the state of the African American press, such as a release on Gorham's study of the use of research techniques by the African American press. Others cover African American current events, Florida A&M University news, and press releases from the Florida Secretary of State. In addition to copies of the press releases, some come attached with Gorham's notes with contacts, reminders, correspondence or previous handwritten drafts.

Publications and other news releases from Thelma Thurston Gorham's collection. It includes releases related to the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC), such as a 1970 news release from the Pennsylvania senator at the time, Hugh Scott, as well as a statement from Oklahoma senator Fred Harris on proposals to provide federal financial assistance to OICs. Within these releases there is also an African Freedom Week publication, as well as other project and news highlights.

These include State Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner news, other articles and publications from Florida A&M University, an "Insurance and you" column, envelopes with notes, and a 1988 W. Harry Davis Foundation news release. There is also an article on Black Newspapers' response to the Doug Alligood report, an article on Franklin Pierce Adams, one on Roy Wood by Horace Gosier, and other publications from the Office of Economic Opportunity.

A collection of some of Thelma Thurston Gorham's certificates and awards. It includes participation awards, certificates for Personal Survival in Disaster, and several from Florida A&M University. Other service awards include a Phi Delta Kappa Area Coordinator's award and an award for outstanding service from Alpha Kappa Alpha's Delta Kappa Omega chapter. There are also certificates of appreciation from the Pilot City Regional Center and from the Twin Cities OIC. There is also a merit certificate from Savannah State College, and a stock certificate for Gorham & Associates, inc.

A collection of Thelma Thurston Gorham's workshop notes and materials. It includes documents for the annual Florida A&M University interscholastic press workshop, such as program drafts and final copies. There are also notes, reminders and other materials for the Secondary Mathematics workshop at Central State College, both Collegiate Editors' and High School Editors' workshop suggestions, and a guidance workshop. There is also a copy of the Pacemaker's February 17th, 1967 issue, and two programs (one blank and one with notes) of the Southern Regional School Press Institute workshop event.

A collection of Thelma Thurston Gorham's research materials and notes for the study of the use of research techniques by the African American press. This includes correspondence to different presses, copies of the questionnaires with responses, draft of an article relating to the study, and notes with contacts for different presses. There is also a copy of a March 5, 1960 issue of The Alaska Spotlight, copies of a different questionnaire for African American radio audiences, and tabulation sheets.

A collection of Thelma Thurston Gorham's notes, research and class materials. There are Anthropology class notes that cover race, the nativist movement, American history, culture and culture diffusion. It also contains research notes, particularly on paper exchange and public interest research groups. There are also other notes for stories, features, and writing, some particularly for a newspaper class. These include notes for discussions, lectures, advice on yearbook and newspaper publication, journalism ethics, advertising, vocational counseling materials and others. At the end there are also surveys and other research materials on African American newspapers for a study on racial self-hatred.

A collection of Thelma Thurston Gorham's notes from her teaching at Florida A&M University. These include documents with edits, a grant application draft written on a weekly quiz copy, and outstanding teacher nomination notes. It also contains a copy of a School of Journalism internship and placement bulletin, and notes on applied social science and human relations. There are also journalism notes, including contacts for different presses and services, and a list of prominent African American figures with additional notes on Black Power. It also contains notes for possible features, recruiting trips and cover letter suggestions.
