George William Gore was President of Florida A&M University from 1950 to 1968, and oversaw the transition from Florida A&M College (FAMCEE) to Florida A&M University. Gilbert Porter was the first full-time paid executive secretary of the Florida State Teachers Association (FSTA), and helped to improve educational opportunities for African American students.
