Photographs of Thelma and Freeman Lawrence. Thelma was a retired educator who served the children of Leon County for nearly forty (40) years as a Classroom Teacher, beginning in rural schools such as Crenshaw, and later working at the John G. Riley Elementary School. Her husband, Freeman, was the former principal at Barrow Hill, Old Lincoln, and Lake McBride. Before his death at 95, he was the last surviving principal of Tallahassee’s original, all-Black Lincoln High School.

A photograph of Caleb "Cooper" Hannah, the first Black plumber in Tallahassee. Born October 16, 1916 to the late Caleb, Sr. and Estell McGill Hannah, he was the sixth child of fourteen children. He completed up to the sixth grade and was able to pass the plumbing contractor's state examination by memorizing the plumbing code manual. Thereafter, he established and operated Hannah's Plumbing Company for over 50 years. Moreover, he was also known for being politically active during the Civil Rights Movement.

Photographs of Ora Green and Althemese Barnes, both members of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. Ora Green is a notable member for her community service, receiving awards such as the Black History Making A Difference Award on February 28, 2023, and one by the American Legion Auxiliary - Thomas Field Post for 60 years of dedicated service on March 13, 2023. Althemese Barnes is also a notable member, as a founder of the John G. Riley Museum and the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network. Her works include several oral history and cultural development projects, historical publications, heritage trail maps, guides, and documentaries, many of which can be seen in this Digital Archive.
