Nelson, Philip John Nelson, Jr. with his grandparents, Nancey and Florida Adams, and Philip as a baby with his mother, Maggie Nelson Sampson. Philip Nelson grew up to become the first African American principal of Rickards High School. He was also a former assistant principal at Lincoln High.
