Description

George Madison "Mack" Gardner and his son, Willie Gardner, Sr. sit on the porch of their country store, which operated into the 1960s and was located at the corner of Gardner and Meridian roads in Tallahassee, Florida. The Gardners were a prominent African American family in Tallahassee. Mack began as a sharecropper and, by the turn of the 20th century, came to own hundreds of acres off North Meridian Road, as well as property in the Frenchtown neighborhood of Tallahassee.
